2020 Farm Credit Illinois Agriculture Scholarship Program

Thirty $2,000 scholarships are available to high school seniors with agricultural career aspirations, planning to enroll in an agriculture-based college curriculum next fall.  Two under-represented minority student applicants will be designated as Diversity in Agriculture Scholars.

Selection Criteria

  • academic achievement
  • participation and leadership within school and community organizations
  • a commitment to pursuing an agriculture-related career
  • recipients must reside – or their family must farm – in one of the 60 central and southern Illinois counties served by Farm Credit Illinois

Passion for Agriculture Video

FCI replaced the essay portion of the application with a Passion for Agriculture Video submission. Create a 30-45 second video on your phone capturing your passion for agriculture. After a quick personal introduction, showcase one specific object (i.e. momento, place, project, person, plant, animal) you treasure and describe its significance and how it helped shape your commitment to agriculture.

Application and Academic Verification Form

All applicants should complete the Application and share the Academic Verification Form link with a school official to submit. The application deadline is February 28, 2020. Contact FCI with scholarship questions at or 217-590-2200.

Scholarship Funds

Recipients will receive $1,000 of the scholarship for the Fall 2020 semester and the remaining $1,000 will be available to students who continue pursuing an agricultural degree during the Fall 2022 semester.

U of I College of ACES Scholarship Match Opportunity

The University of Illinois College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) offers a full $2,000 scholarship match to 2019 Farm Credit Illinois Agriculture Scholars who enroll full-time in the College of ACES either initially in the Fall 2020 semester or as a transfer student in the Fall 2022 semester. More information about the scholarship match is available from the U of I College of ACES.

    Passion For Agriculture Video

    Video guidelines:
Begin the video by sharing your name, high school, and anticipated college or university.
Ask a friend or family member to record you holding the phone horizontally. We want to hear your voice, see your face, and view the showcased object.
Video length should be no longer than 45 seconds. Points will be deducted for videos exceeding this length.
Keep it simple and speak from your heart. No fancy editing required (see sample video below).

Tips for uploading video prior to attaching to application:
Set your phone's video settings to lowest HD settings available (ex: 720p HD at 30fps on iphone 11). Video settings are under the camera settings on your mobile phone.
Check the file size once you've completed the video. FCI recommends the file size is less than 60 MB. The smaller the better. A minute of video shot at 720p HD will be 40 MB.
Transfer your video from your phone to the computer or tablet you're using to complete your application. Use your phone’s charging cord to transfer if the computer or tablet has a usb port.

What to do if you encounter errors submitting the application because of the video and/or photo attachment:
    • Try an alternative browser - Google Chrome is preferable
    •  Contact and we will email you a link to upload using DropBox.

Get ahead and kickstart your career at FCI.
